It Only Hurts When He Goes

Gabriel closed his eyes and rested against her while he waited.

Sammy wrapped her arms around Gabe, watching the number rise.

Gabriel gave a small smile, relaxing more as he felt her arms around him.

Sammy watched as the number finally stopped at 101.8 before the small device started to beep. "There we go, all done now."

Gabe opened his eyes and looked up at her, a curious look on his face.

"It's up there," said Sammy, masking her worry again, pulling the thermometer from Gabe's mouth. "but I've seen it higher before."

"Oh..." Gabriel frowned, closing his eyes again.

Sammy bit her lip. She knew what she was about to say would lead to. "I spoke to your father earlier," she began. "He called for a doctor to come look at you..."

Gabriel froze as he listened, quickly moving away and pulling his blankets up over his head afterwards. "Whyyyyyyy?"

Sammy sighed softly. "Gabe, sweetie you're sick."

"Don't care." Gabriel muttered.

"Gabe please don't be difficult..." said Sammy.

"I don't want to see a doctor." Gabriel said, still hiding.

"You need to though," said Sammy.

Gabriel whimpered quietly, curling up under his blankets.

"Honey, I'll be right here with you the whole time," said Sammy. "I just need to know this isn't anything serious, okay?"

"But..." Gabriel said, slowly peeking his head out, pouting at Sammy.

"Sweetie don't pout," said Sammy, a light plead in her voice. She held her arms out. "C'mere."

Gabriel slowly pulled the blankets down and moved back over to her.

Sammy wrapped her arms around him. "You know I wouldn't make you if I didn't think you needed it honey,"

"I know." Gabriel nodded.

"It's just...you know how I worry about you," said Sammy.

Gabriel gave a small nod and sighed. "Yeah."

"I'm only like this cause I love you Gabe," said Sammy.

"I know mama." Gabriel smiled.
