It Only Hurts When He Goes

"I know baby," said Brenda. "How do you feel now though?"

Gabe just pulled a face.

Brenda frowned. "Still in a lot of pain?"

Gabe nodded, pouting again. "Yes..."

Brenda frowned. "I can't give you anything else for a while..."

"I know that..." Gabe muttered, rolling his eyes.

"I can get you a heating pad," said Brenda.

Gabe nodded. "Okay."

Brenda slipped out of the bed. "I'll be right back."

"Okay." Gabe said quietly, watching her.

Brenda left the room, and hurried back with the heating pad, plugging it in, turning it on, and laying it over Gabe's stomach.

"Thanks." Gabe said, relaxing again.

"Anything to help the pain," said Brenda. "Why don't we check your vitals really quick, okay?"

Gabe nodded, shifting slightly so he was more comfortable.

Brenda stood up, and grabbed the thermometer pack she sat on the table nearby. "Open up, love."

Gabe sighed, but did as he was told.

Brenda placed the thermometer in Gabe's mouth.

Gabe closed his mouth and looked up at her while he waited.

Brenda ran her hand through his hair.

Gabe smiled, leaning into the touch.

"That's it, just relax," Brenda smiled

Gabe closed his eyes and slowly relaxed.

Brenda pulled the beeping thermometer from Gabe's mouth. "Not that high, but still higher than I'd like."

Gabe frowned, his eyes still closed.

"We'll wait a few hours, and then do another CT, and another x-ray, see if the blockage has started to dissolve at all," said Brenda. "If it hasn't, or if the pain gets any worse, we may need to talk about surgically removing it."
